Summary

A SECRET BEACH。
A HOLIDAY OF A LIFETIME。
WISH YOU WERE HERE?

THINK AGAIN…

You wake on a beautiful, remote island。

Sparkling blue seas, golden sunsets, barely a footprint in the sand。

Yet this is no ordinary escape。

Next to the wreck of a plane, a stranger paces。 Another sharpens a knife, scoring a list of the dead onto a palm tree。 Others watch from the shadows of a campfire – all with untold stories, and closely-guarded secrets…

This is no ordinary holiday。
This is no ordinary island。
This is no ordinary beach read。

Gripping, twisty and full of sun-soaked atmosphere, THE CASTAWAYS will whisk you far away to the island – and never let you go。

Took me a while getting through this one。 Was expecting more to be honest but it was ok。

Brilliant read。 Two sisters。 An argument。 A plane crash。 Much mystery and great reminders on living life to the full。 Exploring the complexities of the sibling relationship。 A great read。

This is NOT what the blurb claims it is, but is still enjoyable。 The characters are sympathetic and well written。 A couple of eye rolling moments, and in some ways the pacing was slowed by the continual change of perspectives。 Still enjoyed it

Great idea for a book。 I was MASSIVELY hooked by the start but kiiiiiiiiind of ended up disliking the main characters。 Especially in the middle of the book where it felt a bit slow until the ending。 Would recommend though。 Definitely a “see for yourself” type of vibe。

I was gripped from the start and I have to say I have never finished a book so quickly。 There are lots of twists and turns which which lead you in so many directions。 I liked the different perspectives given from both characters, especially towards the end。 The reason it was given four stars instead of five was because I felt some of the revelations didn’t necessarily add anything to the story。 However, a great book and would definitely recommend!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Absolutely brilliant read!! Gripping, thrilling, unputadownable。 First book of Lucy Clarke and I will definitely reading more。 I loved how the story was from both Lori and Erin's sides of their lives, then and now then the ending 4 months on was a lovely add to put closure to where they both ended up。 I gripped all the way through wanted to keep reading but also didn't as I didn't want it to end。 It was heartbreaking when Lori's second love died but so heartwarming how she cared for and mothered Absolutely brilliant read!! Knowing whether a summer thriller will have the secret sauce that makes it unputdownable is near-impossible。 But happily this one does in spades - a plane crash, a bunch of characters with unclear motivations, our heroine navigating being stuck on a deserted island somewhere in the Fijian archipelago。 And crucially, a couple of late plot twists that make no sense and move us towards an underwhelming conclusion which doesn’t matter because we’ve all had such a good time along the way。 Recommended Knowing whether a summer thriller will have the secret sauce that makes it unputdownable is near-impossible。 But happily this one does in spades - a plane crash, a bunch of characters with unclear motivations, our heroine navigating being stuck on a deserted island somewhere in the Fijian archipelago。 And crucially, a couple of late plot twists that make no sense and move us towards an underwhelming conclusion which doesn’t matter because we’ve all had such a good time along the way。 Recommended! 。。。more

What an addictive beginning, the first half was epic and I was ready to give this 5 stars。A story told in dual narrative, Erin and Lori are 2 sisters separated by the main event and the story follows from each of their perspectives。 There was suspense, dread, some romance, tragedy and lots of mystery。 But after the map scene, the story started to get ridiculous for me and I felt really let down。 It was unrealistic, how no one else got this far to solve the mystery and Erin just happened to find t What an addictive beginning, the first half was epic and I was ready to give this 5 stars。A story told in dual narrative, Erin and Lori are 2 sisters separated by the main event and the story follows from each of their perspectives。 There was suspense, dread, some romance, tragedy and lots of mystery。 But after the map scene, the story started to get ridiculous for me and I felt really let down。 It was unrealistic, how no one else got this far to solve the mystery and Erin just happened to find the right thing needed。 Oof, I knew from this point I could no longer give it the 5 stars I really wanted to。 I have to say I kept reading because I really did want to know what happened, it did keep my attention but I think it was played out to simply and tidily。 I did enjoy hearing about the relationship between the sisters and the premise had a lot of potential。I would like to give this 3。5 stars。Thank you to netgalley for offering me this ARC, I'm just sorry to have not reviewed it earlier and maybe I could have saved some people from getting this。 。。。more

Great read!I really enjoyed this book, a nice easy read that kept you gripped from the start! Highly recommend, will definitely try more by this author。

A mostly captivating read。 I did think maybe there was too much emphasis on the central and essential relationship throughout the novel。。。however the ending, I think, justifies the close spotlight on the sisters' understanding of each other。 Do I blame Lori? No。 Probably not。 Lord of the Flies comes to mind。 A good read。 A mostly captivating read。 I did think maybe there was too much emphasis on the central and essential relationship throughout the novel。。。however the ending, I think, justifies the close spotlight on the sisters' understanding of each other。 Do I blame Lori? 3。5 Stars。 It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that’s easy to get into。 The alternating viewpoints between the two sisters and the short chapters work really well。

Suspenseful plot and premise but the end didn’t land for me (airplane pun intended)。

I found another auto-buy author, this book was such a pleasure to read。 I enjoyed every little bit!It was a brilliant, interesting, fast paced thriller and a perfect summer / beach read。I loved it, simple as that。 It definitely has a LOST vibe at the beginning。 As the story continues it gets more and more tense until the … ending (can’t reveal how I feel about it without spoilers )。 Wouldn’t have it any other way。 Double sided storytelling (from two sisters, torn apart by a plane crash) is just I found another auto-buy author, this book was such a pleasure to read。 I enjoyed every little bit!It was a brilliant, interesting, fast paced thriller and a perfect summer / beach read。I loved it, simple as that。 It definitely has a LOST vibe at the beginning。 As the story continues it gets more and more tense until the … ending (can’t reveal how I feel about it without spoilers )。 Wouldn’t have it any other way。 Double sided storytelling (from two sisters, torn apart by a plane crash) is just perfect。 I definitely recommend it! 。。。more

I enjoyed the book overall and it certainly held my attention。 The poor ending just didn’t sit well with me however。 Apart from Erin the characters were hard to warm to。

This is a book that quite a few of my book friends have recommended to me and I can totally see why。The story flicks between Erin and her sister Lori。 Lori’s chapters are then and Erin’s are in the present day。 This way we get to see the lead up to a tragic event as well as the aftermath in the present day。 It’s hard to know what more to say about the actual story as it is definitely a case of the less you know the better the reading experience will be。With a story like this one, location is the This is a book that quite a few of my book friends have recommended to me and I can totally see why。The story flicks between Erin and her sister Lori。 Lori’s chapters are then and Erin’s are in the present day。 This way we get to see the lead up to a tragic event as well as the aftermath in the present day。 It’s hard to know what more to say about the actual story as it is definitely a case of the less you know the better the reading experience will be。With a story like this one, location is the key and the author brings to life the isolation of being on an island。 Whilst I could envision the hot sun and leafy surroundings, in some ways it felt like a summer paradise but in other ways it also felt menacing。 There is definitely a sinister edge, more so the closer to the truth of what happened on the fateful day of the plane crash。The Castaways is a story that will certainly mess with your mind。 You won’t know who to trust and it had me racing through the pages to find out exactly what did happen on the day in question as well as to Lori。 I would say it’s the perfect beach read but you may think twice about reading this anywhere other than the safety of your own home! 。。。more

Absolutely fantastic page turner, I couldn’t put it down! I thought maybe the flipping between the two might get on my nerves but not at all, it added to the suspense producing cliff hanger after cliff hanger。 There were some heart pounding moments。 A very clever and well written book

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this! Right from the first chapter, the story and characters hooked me in and I found it very hard to put down! I loved the dual narrative with the two sisters and it kept me guessing right til the end。 5/5 stars!

Would probably round it up to 3。5 stars if I could。 I got through this book pretty much in a day, on a sunny day off。 So it didn't bore me necessarily, however it didn't live up to the excitement of the premise or the hype。 The story for me got a little bit saggy in the middle and I didn't quite find it the thriller it had anticipated to be。 But all in all, it entertained me enough to get through it quickly。 So a solid 3/3。5 star for me, but not one I'd go back to。 Would probably round it up to 3。5 stars if I could。 I got through this book pretty much in a day, on a sunny day off。 So it didn't bore me necessarily, however it didn't live up to the excitement of the premise or the hype。 The story for me got a little bit saggy in the middle and I didn't quite find it the thriller it had anticipated to be。 But all in all, it entertained me enough to get through it quickly。 So a solid 3/3。5 star for me, but not one I'd go back to。 。。。more
